Dr. Mark McKenna, the Founder and CEO of ShapeMed

Dr. Mark McKenna is a Medical Doctor licensed to practice Medicine and Surgery in Florida and Georgia. He is a dedicated community worker and passionate about his patients. Mark holds a degree in Medicine from the Tulane University Medical School. After completing his studies, McKenna began to practice medicine at his father’s dispensary. He subsequently launched McKenna Venture Investments, a global real estate development firm. Afterwards, McKenna acquired Uptown Title and Universal Mortgage Lending. His portfolio of companies would grow to over 50 employees. Mark would offer finance, turnkey design-build, and real estate closing services.

On August 29, 2005, most of McKenna’s business interests were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina that hit the city of New Orleans. After the storm, McKenna was instrumental in the rebuilding of New Orleans. He initiated the redevelopment of low-moderate income housing. Mark relocated to Atlanta in November 2007 where he launched ShapeMed, an aesthetic and wellness medical practice. On November 1, 2014, McKenna sold ShapeMed to Life Time Fitness. Dr. McKenna has been serving as the Director of Life Time Fitness until July 2016. His recent venture, OVME, is a technology-enabled and medical aesthetic company focusing on reinventing elective healthcare.

Dr. Mark is married to Gianine McKenna with whom they have given birth to two daughters, Pomeranian Ryder and Milana Elle. He currently serves as a member of Entrepreneurs Organization and previously sat on the board of the New Orleans Industrial Development Board and the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

Dr. McKenna will feature as a guest on a show entitled Doctorpreneur. As the name suggests, Doctorpreneur highlights the entrepreneurial activities in the healthcare and medical communities. Dr. McKenna felt honored by invitation on the inaugural episode. Here, Dr. McKenna discussed his practice, ShapeMed, which is an Atlanta, GA based aesthetic and wellness medical practice. His firm is in the process of launching an innovative physician-partner model that will help surgeons to organize and account for surgical utensils. That will help lower the possibility of OR mistakes and reduce the time take to complete a surgical operation. Its franchise sale started during the first quarter of 2014.
