Behind all of that colorful hair, Doe Deere is the creative mind and CEO of the cult makeup brand, Lime Crime. Deere was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen, where she lived in the western capital of fashion, New York City. Deere has since been living in Los Angeles since 2012. However, before her time in the United States, Deere started her entrepreneurial skills by selling temporary tattoos to her classmates at the age of thirteen. Although Deere was always interested in creative endeavors, the first dream she followed was not makeup. Doe Deere’s first passion was music. During her time in NYC, she followed her interest in music and performed in various bands. One of the bands even led her to meet her future husband. To further her creative pursuits, Doe Deere also attended the well-known FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) school in NYC. While there, she studied fashion design. Eventually, through her creative life in fashion and music, Deere discovered that makeup brands were not catering to bold palettes, but rather to more natural looks. This led Deere to start her makeup business Lime Crime in 2008, which specialized in colorful makeup.
Lime Crime is a cult makeup brand that offers a variety of products in colorful shades ranging all over the rainbow. Products such as eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, hair color, and nail polish are all available. The brand’s goal is to revolutionize makeup through these options that are not traditionally available with bigger brands sold in drugstores and to allow people to express who they truly are. Lime Crime also boasts a 100% vegan and cruelty-free certification through PETA.
How does she do it? Doe Deere follows the advice of “go where you love.” She believes that each person in the world has something worth contributing that is unique. As for her sound business advice, Deere believes that listening is an important step for every entrepreneur. Deere believes that listening to her supporters and her haters can help her succeed, as it keeps her mind open to new ideas and allows her to assess the weaknesses of her brand. Deere has also used the inspiration of experimentation utilized in her early makeup looks to help build the fun and the brand of Lime Crime, ensuring that it is truly a line that allows its followers to experiment with color and style.
